Actual Play: Monsterhearts Session 4-2

Players: Joe, Megan, Rob, Todd

This is it! The thrilling and gory finale of our Monsterhearts game! Woo! As Alice rages, Raphael schemes, and Longman passive-aggressively mopes, the question must be asked: WHO WILL SURVIVE AND WHAT WILL BE LEFT OF THEM? And why is Longman such a douche. Damn mortals.

Content warning: as with all the other sessions, this one is NSFW. There is some bullying, a lot of violence, and some manipulation, as well.

Actual Play: Monsterhearts, Session 4-1

Players: Joe, Megan, Rob, Todd

Our final session of Monsterhearts, part I! We split it into two shorter episodes because it was near four hours. In this session, Megan returns as Alice, and we have some fairly eventful monster on monster and monster on mortal action!

Content warning: as per usual, this episode is NSFW. There’s a little bit of bullying, some violence, a teen being briefly physically abused by their parent, and some sex (including some slightly rough sex, mostly off camera) at the end of the episode. If any of this would bother you, please be forewarned!

Actual Play: Monsterhearts Session 3

Players: Joe, Rob, Timo, Todd

We’re back with Monsterhearts Session 3! Megan was busy for this one, so instead we get some focus on Bastian the Beast.

The Usual Disclaimer: Monsterhearts is a NSFW game. In particular, this session features a sex scene, a scene where a character manipulates someone into having sex with someone else (the sex is off camera), and a scene of some pretty cruel bullying, as well as some language and violence smattered throughout. None of it is particularly graphic, but it’s definitely there. If any of that would be problematic for you, please be forewarned and use your discretion!

Actual Play: Monsterhearts, Session 2

Players: Joe, Megan, Rob, Timo, Todd

Here is the second session of our Monsterhearts campaign! Whoo! More monstrous teenage behavior, particularly from the regular old human, who is the most monstrous of all! Stupid jerky Longman.

NOTE ONE: As with most Monsterhearts games, this game is definitely NSFW and contains some fairly rated-R content. In particular, this session contains some language, sex, manipulation, and bullying, including adults/parents bullying and insulting teenagers. This session also has some (almost entirely off camera) incest (which won’t surprise you if you listened to the last episode!). If any of this would be particularly offensive or triggering to you, please be forewarned!

NOTE TWO: Right around the 2 hour mark, the furnace in Rob’s basement kicked on for about 20 minutes or so and made things hard to hear. I did my best to work some audio magic to remove the sound of the furnace, but a little bit of the audio was hard to salvage during that time. You can mostly hear everything, but there’s a few points where Joe is a little muffled. Sorry about that. In the future, we will only conduct APs in the most pristine of recording studios (please note: that will not happen. APs will continue to be recorded in basements with Tiki Bars in them).

Actual Play: Monsterhearts, Session 1

Players: Joe, Megan, Rob, Todd

This is our first session of Avery McDaldno’s Monsterhearts. We explain the game early on, so if you’re not familiar with it, you’ll get a nice little summary of it.

A quick note: Monsterhearts is a pretty R-rated game, so let me definitely say that this is NSFW and there is some antisocial behavior portrayed in our game (as with most games of MH!). This session is fairly tame compared to some coming up, but I do want to mention a few things. In particular, in this session, we have some sexist language and implications (a character explaining how to pick up girls to his younger brother) as well as some content discussing racism (no slurs or anything like that, but we discuss how the racism of the town we live in affects one of the few black teenagers at the school). This, along with some violence, bullying, and sex. So if any of this would be triggering for you, be warned in advance.

Please refer to our interview with Avery for a discussion on the politics of Monsterhearts if that would be interesting to you and help you put some of the anti-social, kids-being-kind-of-crappy themes of Monsterhearts in a context.

Actual Play: Our Last Best Hope, Part I

Players: Joe, Rob, Timo, Todd

We sit down to play a 2-session game of Our Last Best Hope, a game about a team of people trying to save humanity from some crisis. In this session, we mostly make characters and the world, and then play out the first few scenes. In a few weeks, I’ll post the second session. Enjoy!
