hey look, a DM’s cheat sheet

Here is a tool provided by S. John Ross, the writer of Risus. It’s a list of plot points and hooks that can be used as inspiration for prepping a game, written in an engaging and entertaining style. He even gives some pretty nifty advice at the end.

  1. So I read it and my first thought was…Well Duh! I mean basically all it shows is a few basic plot outlines from different stories that you could read anywhere. Any novel, any TV show, any movie. Then the advice followed the same format, he is a few interesting ways to write a good story that you could learn by copying any the plot of any media you’ve viewed.

Then, second thought: Oh, that’s the point. To me, this article is nothing new. But to a new GM they might not realize that they don’t have to do what every writer for the past ten generations have tried to do; write a completely new story. I think that this is a great way to get past writer’s block.

    Yay for this resource.
