    You know, I’m not surprised that JP is saying a lot that I disagree with.

    A major difference that you get from having the PC’s create important NPC’s (rather than having a DM create them) is that it matters to THEM, the players. Just because an NPC is supposedly important to character doesn’t mean that the player actually cares at all about them, wants to interact with them, or gets any fun for doing so. This can cause an NPC relationship that is forced on the player to serve the story, and takes away from their fun.

    Also, you don’t have to feed the details to the players, they already have them. You don’t say “this person is important to you because of x.”
