Q. How long have you been playing games?

A. Since 7th grade. Introduced with LARP which is no way to start a new gamer. On the plus side it made me want to Role Play as opposed to Roll Play.

Q. What types of games do you play?

A. Generic answer: all kinds. Board to Videogames. I’m in school to make Video games so design, mechanics and player interaction are all important.

Q. Do you still LARP?

A. Of course! Its an opportunity to see friends that I wouldn’t see on a normal basis. I know what you’re thinking, but it isn’t as bad as it sounds. Its one half hanging out, one half gaming. And we play rock, paper, scissors to determine who wins and loses. No swords. No funny accents. Well… some funny accents.

Q. Why do you do the Jank Cast?

A. The only person I do is you JOHNKELLY. Also, radio on the internet sounds like a silly band name. Also, I like talking about games.

Q. What is your advice to the masses?

A. We don’t have masses, we’re the Jank Cast. We have like what…four people listening? Um. Play and write as much as possible. The more the better…the better…the more?

I recently listened to ep 51. I’ve never heard this before, but it really hit a lot of notes with me simply because, as I listened to it, I realized that these are the discussions that my friends and I actually have. It made me fucking laugh. Truly no non-geek is ever going to get what the fuck you guys are talking about, and for whatever reason, it maes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. But to get down to the reason why I actually wrote this here. I believe that you were the one that was defending the new WoD system, and I thank you (and if you weren’t I apologize and send this on to the dude that was). I truly do enjoy the hell out of the new system. Don’t get me wrong, I love the old system as well. Hell I started with the old system, but I still love the shit out of the new one. They stream-lined it and got rid of all the clunky-ass shit that they had before. Like the rules for dodging in combat. I hated the old rules for that, you may as well have not even taken the Talent to dodge at all the way they played it out. The new one is great simply because you don’t consciously have to bother with it. Obviously that’s just one of the many things that are better about the new system. There, of course, are a few things that I miss from the old system…Backgrounds being one of them, but it’s certainly not a detraction for them to not be there. Also, there are a couple of the new lines I hated (though I still got the books. I had the same reaction you did by the way, that whole ‘Yeah! Now I can start collecting the books from the beginning!’) such as Promethean: The Emo…and some of the stuff with Werewolf I didn’t like. Though one of the books from the old line that I hated I now absolutely love…Changeling. How fucking cool is it now? Seriously. In the new one you’re not some fucking schizo-hippie and it’s actually the World of Darkness in the new line. That’s one of the reasons I hated the old Changeling line…c’mon it’s supposed to be the World of fucking DARKNESS…not Woodstock meets Disney’s Peter-fucking-Pan. (And yes fucking is my favorite word and my favorite act.) And on that note…

I came up with a better analogy for the old Changeling than above…it’s The Beetles Yellow Submaine meets Disney’s Peter Pan

Thanks for the comment man. Yeah, that was me who stood up and defended the NWoD for being a great game. I agree with a lot of the points you brought up. Both systems are good, both have great lines and potential for stories.

Thanks for speaking up man, and I agree The Lost is one of the best gaming lines I’ve seen in a long time.
