It's not Denny's but it's close.
Q. How long have you been playing games?
A. I started playing Table Top RPGs just before high school, but before that I played Video Game RPGs, particular the Final Fantasy since I was 8 or 9 years old.
Q. What is your experience with games?
A. I’ve been gaming for 6 years and been helping out in game stores for 5 of those years. Yeah I’m that guy that doesn’t really “work” at the store but does a lot of work there. I mostly GM but more recently I’ve got more chances to be a player.
Q. What types of games do you play?
A. Really I’ll play anything I can afford. That makes collectibles difficult. Mostly RPGs and Epic Board Games like Battlestar, Arkham Horror and Pitch Car.
Q. What is your favorite Role-Playing Game?
A. I can’t say it’s my favorite because that changes so often but I really, really like Burning Wheel. I think it makes players think about their characters through its Belief and Instinct System. Also, Fiasco.
Q. Why do you prefer GMing?
A. I like creating a story and telling that store. I also have done improv for years before starting gaming so I like making my story new based on what other people do.
Q. Why is your name JOHNKELLY?
A. Well, a long time ago my friends decided that there were too many Johns around so they started calling me by my full name. Instead of saying it like normal sane people, Lexx would shout it so now it’s JOHNKELLY, one-word, all-caps.
Q. So you often are refereed to as young, how young are you?
A. Well, at the moment of me writing this, I am 19. However that may change since we never update the website…except now. PARADOX!!! But yeah, I’m 19 and currently am in college at Columbia College Chicago (not a real school) for Theatre Design with a concentration in lighting. You can look at my theatre work here: www.johnkellydesigns.com
Q. Why do you do The Jank Cast?
A. I started the Jank Cast because I really enjoyed listening to other gaming podcasts and all of them said, “you could do it yourself.” I took that as a challenge. So I spent a moderate amount of money and started a podcast with my friends…that’s a loose use of the word friends. Now that we’ve been going for awhile I really like the idea of promoting a particular gamer community. It’s great going into the store and talking with people about the podcast’s most recent episodes.
Q. What’s your advice to the masses?
A. “Don’t count it!”
